Jonathan was a professor at the University of Cambridge for 33 years. Later he was a Lecturer in European History, Vice Masters and Trinity Hall Fellow, and also taught at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

He has been a member of the Board of Directors since October 1988 and Chairman of the Board of Directors until November 2004. Jonathan was responsible for creating and developing the company’s proprietary index methodology. The mergers and acquisitions division of Bear, Stearns and Co.
