She was elected to the seat in the 2015 general elections, increasing Labour’s majority and its share. On 3 June 2015, she delivered her maiden speech. Rayner was elected a Member of Parliament in the 2019 general election for the third consecutive time after five years. Rayner was elected Deputy Leader, Shadow First Secretary, and Chair of the Labour Party.
Rayner was sworn into the Most Honourable Privy Council of Her Majesty on 12 February 2021. Rayner was reshuffled by Sir Keir Sterner on 8 May 2021 to take over her positions as chair of the Labour Party and national campaign coordinator. This was in response to the 2021 local elections. In the aftermath, she was appointed Shadow Chancellor of Lancaster and Shadow Secretary of state for the Future of Work. Rayner was featured on BBC Radio 4’s Weekly Profile program in May 2021.
