Breonna Taylor and her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, were in her flat in Louisville, Kentucky, on March 13, 2020. Three plainclothes LMPD officers, Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove, Gradually entered Breonna Taylor’s flat during a no-knock investigation warrant.
Even the LMPD officers were looking to get Jamarcus Glover and Adrian Walker, suspects of selling controlled substances in the drug dwelling. Glover had previously dated Taylor for two years.

Even the LMPD officers knocked down the door. Kenneth Walker, upon learning an intruder breaking into the flat, fired first. The police stated they declared themselves while going into the flat and knocked several times.

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer called for Officer Hankison’s elimination by the Louisville Police Merit Board in early June. Hakinson was formally fired on June 23, 2020.
Walker was initially charged with first-degree attack and attempted murder of a police officer. The police office officers claimed they declared before forcefully going into the apartment.
However, Taylor’s family and neighbors contested the police did not make a statement. In a 911 telephone voice record saying Walker was discovered, “somebody kicked at the door and shot my girlfriend.” Walker was released from prison because of COVID-19 concerns.

The litigation has been settled in September 2020. The City of Louisville decided to pay $12 million into Taylor’s family and agreed to change police practices.
