In 2005, David met Gina and began dating her. Gina was born in Tampa and has lived in Toronto since she was seven years old. She was born in Tampa and helped the athlete obtain his American citizenship when they were married.

They lived in Edinburg with their four dogs. In January 2010, the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Lija. They parted ways for unknown reasons. Lija lives now with her father.
