How to Hire an Economic Expert

Hiring an economic expert is one of the few sure-fire ways to help your company win a court case.  Whether it’s about discrimination or hour disputes, a financial expert will walk through what happened and will work to show it in your favor.  Although they’re not miracle workers, these professionals work hard to ensure you get what you need to win.

Consider Their Previous Cases

What cases have they been an expert for before?  Is it just one or two more minor cases, or have they built a career out of topics similar to yours?  Don’t be afraid to ask for references to find out how their previous clients felt about them and if there was room for growth or change. An excellent economic expert will have a steady work history and will be practiced in getting up and speaking in front of the courts.

Look At Your Budget

Economic experts aren’t free.  They charge anywhere from sixty to two hundred dollars per hour in court.  This amount covers the research they have to do for your case and your time having to interview and hire them. So if you can’t afford someone high-end, it’s okay to go low-end, but ensure that you find someone quality who believes in your case and wants to help you.

Check How They Carry Themselves

Does this expert feel like an expert?  Watch their body language, how personable they seem, and how easy they are to understand.  You’re not trying to befriend them; it’s just a good idea to get an eye for how they may handle themself in the courtroom.  If they seem anxious, they won’t be a good fit for the courtroom, even just at the interview stage.

Confidence shows through body language by sitting up straight, making eye contact, and conversing when the need arises.  If they’re avoidant, hard to talk to, or they seem annoyed just being there: they’re not a good fit for you.

Look At Their Credentials

Where did they go to school?  How recently?  The sweet spot is usually a graduate who has been out of school for a couple of years.  This time will have allowed them to apply their degree to their daily working life, without forgetting or losing much from school.  The impressiveness of which school they went to doesn’t matter but pay attention to their placement in their class.  A better student means they may have a better chance at using factual information that may help you.

Ensure Their Beliefs Align With Yours

Although this might not seem too important, especially with an unbiased science with economics, looking for an expert who shares your belief systems matters.  If they have a bias against the case’s outcome, it might come through in their testimony.  They may seem charming and understanding in person, but on the stand, they’ll be in front of jurors, a judge, and the other party in the case. So it’s a good idea to find someone who believes in you so that they can fight for you wholeheartedly.
