Who is Miranda Cosgrove?

Miranda Cosgrove is a well-known actress mainly because of her main character role as Carly on Nickelodeon’s iCarly. At the early age of 3, she made her TV debut with McDonald’s and Mello Yello commercials before taking up television roles and going into films. In 2012, when Miranda was working for the famous show iCarly, she earned $180,000 per episode, making her the second highest paid child actor on TV. 

Miranda Cosgrove has worked for Nickelodeon on another TV series called ‘Drake and Josh’ as Megan Parker. Early Life

Miranda Taylor Cosgrove was born to Tom Cosgrove and Christina Cosgrove on May 14, 1993. Her family is from Los Angeles, California. Raised by a family that owned a business of dry cleaning at that time, Miranda was the only child while growing up. Since elementary, she was homeschooled and later took up acting majors from the University of Southern California. At a very young age, Miranda was discovered by an agent while she was dancing and singing at a restaurant table. The agent, on seeing her talent, immediately signed her for the agency. 

Acting Career 

The very young and talented Miranda made her first appearance on TV with commercials for McDonald’s, Burger King and others. She auditioned further for other roles when she was seven and finally bagged her first ever acting gig. She was cast in the movie School of Rock in 2003 to play the role of Summer Hathaway. 

While filming this movie in New York, Miranda was told by her agents that her pilot project Drake & Josh, would commence in a few weeks. The show went on to become her first major TV breakthrough. In this series, she played the role of a younger sister to Drake and Josh. While she filmed this, she also did a couple of other gigs and appeared on a few of the Nickelodeon shows. 

In 2007 Miranda finally landed herself her own TV show called iCarly for Nickelodeon. It was the actual kickstart of her career as she went on to become the second highest-paid child actor doing this show. In 2009, Cosgrove also earned the Young Artist Award for Best Performance for her role in iCarly. 

Her acting career accelerated really well throughout these shows, winning her many awards, and she also signed more shows and films thereafter.

Singing Career

iCarly played a huge role in helping Cosgrove kickstart her singing career. One of her first singing projects was “Leave it all to me,” which was iCarly’s theme track. Her singing career took off for a success when she was recognized as the MTV Pop Rookie in the year 2009 after releasing her EP “About You Now.” 

After a year of performing and being a music artist, Miranda released her first album “Sparks Fly” in April 2010, which made her hit number eight on Billboard’s 200 charts. She worked with songwriters like The Matrix, Dr. Luke, Daniel James, Max Martin and Leah Haywood for this album. When asked what this album signified, Cosgrove mentioned that it empowered rock-girl. The single “Kissin’ U” from this album first premiered on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show.

In 2011, she released another EP called “High Maintenance” to continue her passion for singing. This album was also written by some famous artists and songwriters like Avril Lavigne, Shellback and Max Martin. The first single from the album was called “Dancing Crazy,” which debuted #40 on the US Billboard’s Adult Pop Songs after three weeks of play. The album led Miranda to her first national tour called the Dancing Crazy Tour, which she started in Missouri and ended in Ohio. 

Miranda Cosgrove’s Other Projects

As Miranda continued her singing and acting career, she expanded her roles and worked as a voice-over artist for Despicable Me’s character Margo. She continued voicing for the role in all the sequels that came after. The actress also voiced for other animated movies such as Here Comes Peter Cottontail: The Movie. In addition, Cosgrove expanded her theatrical horizons by starring in films like Yours, Mine and Ours (2005) and Keeping Up With Steins (2006), which did not do very well at the box office. 

In 2015 Miranda returned to acting with a role in NBC’s show Crowded as Shea. The show was about an Astrophysics scholar who graduated from MIT and was lost about what to do after her college life. She moves back to her hometown with her sister to figure her life out, eventually driving her parents crazy. The show aired on March 15, 2016, but it didn’t continue beyond the first season as it got canceled.
