Castellano was born on 26 June 1915 in Brooklyn to Giuseppe Castellano (the Italian immigrant) and Concetta (the Brooklyn native). Giuseppe was an Italian immigrant and a butcher. He was also an early member of the Mangano crime clan, the precursor to the Gambino families.
