The three films serve as a prequel to Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” film trilogy, with Jackson also directing the prequel films, based on the novel entitled “The Hobbit” by J. R. R. Tolkien.
The film received positive reviews and was the fourth highest grossing film of 2013, surpassing “The Fellowship of the Ring” and “The Two Towers”.
