Steve Young (born March 26, 1961) is a retired professional quarterback who played in the National Football League. He was born in San Francisco, California and attended Brigham Young University. After playing college football for the BYU Cougars, Young transferred to the Church College of Hawaii for one season. He then returned to BYU where he led them for three years as their starting quarterback and set school records in virtually every passing category.
Young was the first overall pick in the 1984 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He went on to play for the Buccaneers (1984-1991), San Francisco 49ers (1992-1994), and San Diego Chargers (1995). He was a Pro Bowler in both 1988 and 1990 and also led his team to a Super Bowl XXXII victory over the Denver Broncos, though he did not play in the game.
Young is considered by many to be one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. In Super Bowl XXIX, he was involved in one of greatest comebacks ever, rallying his team back from a 28-point deficit.
